

Auckland Airport is undertaking its biggest redevelopment since the airport first opened in 1966, consisting of significant transformation of its assets with capital works program of $5.7 Billion NZD to upgrade terminals, the airfield, and transport networks on a long-term program through to 2032.
To assist Auckland Airport in successfully delivering its capital works program, SmedTech was engaged to support the airport's project delivery team in reviewing the capital works program and assisting the airport in identifying opportunities to optimise the program of work - which constituted approximately 90 separate projects that were in the pipeline at the various stages of development from conceptualisation through to delivery. As part of our engagement, we worked with the airport's project delivery team, a constructability advisor and the airports individual project teams to develop a tailored methodology and framework to assess the planned delivery of works. SmedTech's review culminated in a series of strategic recommendations to improve procurement, delivery efficiency and risk management. These findings provided Auckland Airport with a clearer, more robust pathway for advancing its planning, operations, and program execution of the major investments being made through the projects.
